The monitor immediately cut to black. There was no Activision logo, no developer splash screen, and no bombastic cinematic intro. A low, rhythmic humming sound began to bleed through his headphones, pulsing like a heavy, mechanical heartbeat.

As he guided the character forward, the audio design began to mess with his head. He could hear the distinct, crunching sound of combat boots on broken glass, the heavy breathing of the soldier, and the distant, muffled sound of automatic gunfire.
