The song was born from a period of deep personal struggle. In late 2018, OVERWERK experienced a severe mental health episode involving psychosis that left him debilitated and out of contact with reality for a significant time.

During his recovery, he underwent an MRI scan. While he was not in a state to produce music at the time, the rhythmic, mechanical, and magnetic sounds of the scanner "resonated" with him.
