Tom discovers that the killer is indeed his cousin Jimmy, who survived the fall. It is further revealed that Tom’s uncle, Captain Nick Detillo (Dennis Farina), accidentally killed Tom's father while trying to protect his son, Jimmy, at the original crime scene.

During a high-speed chase of the suspected strangler, Tom's father, Vince, is shot and killed. The suspect, Jimmy, supposedly commits suicide by jumping off a bridge, though his body is never found.
