The song's iconic melody wasn't originally written for a techno club. It was sampled from a track called by David Whittaker, which featured in the 1984 Commodore 64 game Lazy Jones . In 1999, German producer Florian Senfter (aka Splank!) of Zombie Nation used the SID chip sound from the game to create "Kernkraft 400". However, permission for the sample wasn't initially granted, leading to a legal settlement where Whittaker was paid an undisclosed sum.
