The story is set in a secluded forest in the Polish People's Republic. A mysterious phenomenon known as "the Woods" has begun to rapidly expand, isolating the area from the outside world and trapping its inhabitants. The forest is not merely a collection of trees but a malevolent, sentient entity that mutates living things, defies the laws of physics, and drives people to madness.

The Stranger must survive each day by scavenging for resources and each night by barricading themselves in a hideout to avoid the horrors that emerge in the dark.
